Naval Blockade to End the War
If I was advising president Truman on how to end the war, I would tell him to use a naval blockade to force the Japanese to either starve or surrender. Seeing as how the Japanese were getting ready to call it quits in the war anyway, this seems like it would be the most efficient and less harmful option. If the Soviets joined the war, a lot of people would have died, which would have been unnecessary. Dropping bombs on major cities would only kill innocent civilians and using an atomic bomb on an unpopulated island is pointless. If you're going to use a bomb, then actually use it the way it's intended to be used; to kill. Invading Japan would cause a lot of deaths on both sides. Using a naval blockade is, in my opinion, the most efficient and less costly way to end the war.
